After all the cold and miserable weather we had in October, we really wondered what Halloween would be like. The two days before were drizzly, rainy, cold and uninviting...and then it changed, virtually overnight.
The following photos & video were taken Saturday, October 31, 2009 at our home. The video, I'm afraid, is very poor quality. I had the lighting in the house set very soft, which we like, but which was awful for filming. The light I filmed by was created by candles, decorative lights, and a few small lamps with low watt bulbs. I booted up the brightness, and even with the poor quality, I think you will still get the general feel of our evening, our guests, and our house...
Happy Samhain!

Thanks to Nadia, my Merlin has a mate...

Herbs drying above our kitchen table...

Shadow cats...illuminated by light from the open door on the landing below...

Divination is so connected to Samhain. This table is for show, but I also sat up tables on the back porch with divination tools the guests could dig into and really use: tarot cards, several ouija & spirit boards, pendulum, chinese fortune sticks, runes, and cute little good witch/bad witch oracle cards. Even if people aren't personally familiar with the use of these items, they always seem genuinely intrigued...

I find this sculpture of a human skull so beautiful that she sits on my entertainment center year round, and she is the inspiration for an oil painting I've done for a new box called 'The Oak Witch'. I gave her a special place of honor for Samhain night...

Our newest addition of Samhain decorations is a 6' black tree with a sheer witch's hat on top...

Samhain is also our Sophia's birthday-- and this year she turned 12. Below are just a handful of photos of friends & family...And yep, that's Salem. He was notoriously popular. His feet barely touched the ground on this night because someone was always carrying him around, and he seemed to love every minute of it.

As the evening wore on, a beautiful moon came up. It was so bright it threw a silver light on everything and cast shadows. The crowd also grew as the evening progressed, and that's when I grabbed my camera one last time...
